A Message From the Charlotte FBI Special Agent in Owen Harris
I appreciate the opportunity to introduce myself to you informally before I get to meet everyone in person at the next re-trainer. A little about me - I have held many positions and been assigned to many offices in the FBI before being selected as the Special Agent in Charge in Charlotte. Prior to 2001, I primarily investigated criminal matters, with a focus on gangs and criminal enterprises, crimes against children, civil rights and property crimes. Like many in the FBI, my focus shifted to national security matters after September 11.
I recognize that new leadership often causes a bit of anxiety in established groups with strong memberships. I also served as an advisor to National Academy Chapters while the Assistant SAC in Western Pennsylvania and West Virginia. I have a deep gratitude for the NA and for all of you who devote time and energy to making this one of the best chapters in the country. During my tenure in law enforcement, the world has changed, so much so that crime no longer stops at the city, county or state line. In fact, today many crimes committed in our communities have some type of transnational nexus. The National Academy allows us all to find a common ground across borders, across jurisdictions, so we can work together to identify, investigate and successfully convict criminals.
As the SAC in North Carolina, my goal is to leverage our resources to assist your agencies and departments in combating crimes that erode our communities and impact our livelihoods, such as gang violence, mortgage and corporate fraud, and corruption. At the same time, we all must remain vigilant against our adversaries seeking to threaten our national security and undermine our way of life.
I welcome your thoughts on how we can better help you, and look forward to meeting you and working in partnership to keep our communities safe.
