FBI National Academy Associates North Carolina Chapter November 2, 2007 Chapter Business Meeting Minutes, Morganton, NC Prepared by: Myron Guthrie, Chapter Historian The General Meeting of the North Carolina National Academy Associates was called to order by Chapter President Greg Harrington at 10:35 AM. The meeting began with an invocation that was given by President Harrington and the members then recited the Pledge of Allegiance. President Harrington welcomed the members and asked Secretary/Treasurer Cindy Isenhour to conduct a roll-call of the Executive Board. All Executive Board Members answered present. Motion: President Harrington asked for a motion to accept the meeting minutes from the Wrightsville Beach Business meeting on June 19, 2007. A motion to accept the meeting minutes was made by Steve Gillikin and received a second from Joey Reynolds. The members voted and the motion carried. President Harrington asked board members who had reports to present those reports to the members. Second Vice President Marshall Williamson gave an update of the 2007 Summer Conference and reported after all expenses were paid the chapter made a little over $6,000.00. First Vice President Mike Carver provided information to the members about the 2008 Summer Conference. He reported the conference would be held in Kill Devil Hills on June 15 – 18, 2008. First Vice President Carver reported the conference hotel would be the Ramada Inn and room rates will be $180.00 for ocean front, $160.00 for dune view, and $150.00 for a street view room. First Vice President Carver advised the members he was currently scheduling family events for the conference and there would be a band at the banquet. He asked members to send him a request for any particular training they were interested in having at the conference. Secretary/Treasurer Cindy Isenhour presented a report on the chapter’s finances. She reported as of June 30, 2007, eighty-nine percent (89%) of the previous year’s members had paid their dues. Secretary/Treasurer Isenhour reported the chapter had a $6,000.00 surplus from the summer conference. In the interest of saving time, Secretary/Treasurer Isenhour advised the members she had reports that detail all chapter financial transactions and the reports were available for members to review. President Harrington introduced Steve Warren, and Steve welcomed everyone to the conference and offered his assistance to members while they were in Morganton. President Harrington introduced Charlotte FBI SAC Nathan Gray and SAC Gray welcomed the members to the conference and introduced FBI supervisory staff that are assigned to offices throughout the state. The supervisors present are Tim Milade, Dave Johnson, Sam Lee, Mike Resnick, Jimmy Russell, and Jim Jewel. SAC Gray urged members to contact him or the members of his supervisory staff if they had any questions or requests for assistance from the FBI. SAC Gray thanked the executive board for their service and the members for their attendance at the training conferences. President Harrington thanked SAC Gray for his tremendous support of the chapter and recognized and thanked Training Coordinator Jerry Senatore for the outstanding job he has done for the chapter. President Harrington introduced Lt. Chris Hoina of the Cary Police Department and Lt. Hoina gave members an update on the Spring 2008 Training Conference that will be held in Cary on March 14, 2008. Lt. Hoina advised the members that he had received a donation from SAS in the amount of $1,000.00 and Lawman’s Safety has made a pledged of support for the conference. He reported a raffle would be held at the conference for a one night stay at the 5-Star Umstead Hotel and Spa in Cary. Lt. Hoina reported some of the training topics being considered for the conference include Terrorism in North Carolina, Gangs, and the Crisis Intervention Program. Old Business Immediate Past President Steve Gillikin announced he was forming a committee to develop selection criteria for the new annual Neal Forney Award that was approved at the Rocky Mount Training Conference. Second Vice President Williamson presented President Harrington with a framed print from the 2007 Summer Conference. First Vice President Carver reported on the chapter scholarship program and advised the members that a vote was needed to change the Chapter By-laws to include the scholarship program. Motion A Motion was made by James Buie to accept the scholarship program criteria and change the Chapter By-laws to include the scholarship program. The motion received a second from Steve Gillikin and passed after a vote by the members. New Business President Harrington advised the members that Past President Joey Reynolds was running for Section III Representative on the National Board. He reported the election would be held during the 2009 National Conference in Louisville, Kentucky and urged as many members to go as possible to support Past President Reynolds. President Harrington advised the members that the executive board has agreed to provide financial support to Past President Reynolds in the amount of $1,000.00. President Harrington introduced Kadie Williams, the 2008 Youth Leadership candidate, who gave an overview of her experiences at the FBI Academy. After Ms. Williams’ presentation President Harrington presented her with a chapter coffee cup, challenge coin, and patch. President Harrington asked the members if anyone had knowledge of graduates who have passed away since the last business meeting and no deaths of graduates were reported. President Harrington announced the passing of Member Jeff Isenhour’s father. Jeff is the husband of Secretary/Treasurer Cindy Isenhour. President Harrington recognized the new graduates in attendance and asked them to stand and introduce themselves. He then asked any past presidents in attendance to stand and introduce themselves. President Harrington asked Steve Warren, Mark Tolbert, and Alex Cobb to come forward and he presented each with a gift in appreciation of their hosting the training conference. President Harrington also presented a plaque to the Western Piedmont College for their sponsorship of the conference. This plaque was accepted by Steve Warren on their behalf. President Harrington asked members if anyone had any announcements they would like to make or other business they would like to conduct. In the absence of any announcements or further business, President Harrington asked for a motion to close the meeting. Motion A motion to close the meeting was made by Bill Farley and received a second from Second Vice President Marshall Williamson. The members voted and the motion carried. The business meeting adjourned at 11:10 AM.
