FBI National Academy Associates North Carolina Chapter November 4, 2005 Chapter Business Meeting Minutes, Greensboro, NC Prepared by: Myron Guthrie, Chapter Historian The General Meeting of the North Carolina National Academy Associated was called to order by Chapter President Bob Schurmeier at 10:05 AM. The meeting began with an invocation that was given by Second Vice President Greg Harrington and was followed by the membership reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. President Schurmeier recognized the Chapter’s Past Presidents and introduced the Chapter’s newest graduates, and this was followed by attending members introducing themselves. President Schurmeier expressed regrets for Charlotte FBI Office SAC Kevin Kendrick and Training Coordinator Jerry Senatore, who were not able to attend the meeting. Old Business (Motion) President Schurmeier presented the meeting minutes from the March 24, 2005 meeting in Lenoir and asked for a motion to accept the minutes. A motion to accept the meeting minutes was made by First Vice President Steve Gillikin and received a second from Second Vice President Greg Harrington. The members then voted and the motion was carried. President Schurmeier asked Secretary/Treasurer Cindy Isenhour to present a financial report to the members. Secretary/Treasurer Isenhour reviewed the financial data and advised the members that copies of the financial reports would be available for review by any member who wished to review them. President Schurmeier discussed the need to raise membership dues citing low chapter account balances and the National Board’s raising of National Dues. President Schurmeier advised members that the Board’s proposed increase would bring yearly dues for an active member to $100.00 and a retired member would pay $25.00. (Motion) President Schurmeier asked the membership if there was a motion from the floor to accept the Board’s recommendation and raise dues to the stated amount. A motion was made by Chris Rahe to accept the Board’s recommendation and received a second by Ken Williams. The members voted and the motion was carried. President Schurmeier asked Immediate Past President Joey Reynolds to give the members a report from the nomination committee. IPP Reynolds reported the committee has received the nomination of Lt. Marshall Williamson of the Wilmington Police Department for the position of Second Vice President. IPP Reynolds reported the following nominations have been received for the following District Representatives: · District 2 – None · District 4 – Greg Seal · District 6 – Bob Stock · District 7 – Wayne Hartley · District 8 – Bill Godley\ Member Bill Farley asked about counties in District 2 and IPP Reynolds answered his questions. President Schurmeier asked the membership if there were any further nominations for any of the positions and Joe Bartlett was nominated for the position of District 2 Representative. (Motion) President Schurmeier asked the membership if there was a motion from the floor to accept the nominees. A motion to accept the nominees was made by Jeff Isenhour and received a second by Matt Mauncy. The members voted and the motion was carried. President Schurmeier congratulated Lt. Williamson and the newly elected District Representatives. President Schurmeier asked First Vice President Gillikin to give the members a 2006 Summer Conference update. First Vice President Gillikin reviewed information about the hotel, activities, and training. First Vice President Gillikin asked members to submit any training ideas to Second Vice President Mike Carver via email. President Schurmeier gave the members an overview of the Section III President/Secretary Meeting he and Secretary/Treasurer Isenhour recently attended. President Schurmeier asked Second Vice President Harrington to give the members a 2006 Spring Conference update. Second Vice President Harrington advised members that the conference would be held at the Food Factory in Wake Forrest. Second Vice President Harrington advised members that Training Coordinator Jerry Senatore would be giving a presentation on his recent deployment to Iraq, and asked if any member had an idea for training to please contact him. Second Vice President Mike Carver addressed the members and expressed a need to begin thinking about the 2007 Summer Conference. He advised the members that a conference location needed to be identified and asked that recommendations be made at the Spring Conference in Wake Forrest. Second Vice President Carver gave the members an update on the Legacy Account and advised that a committee was in place that would give recommendations on how the money should be used. He reported the committee would present a plan for the account at the Spring Conference. President Schurmeier asked Chapter Historian Guthrie to give the members a report on recent member deaths. Historian Guthrie advised members that the only notification he had received was the death of Chief Jeter L. Williamson, former Greensboro Police Chief and Foreign Service Officer for the US Department of State, who attended the 37th Session and passed away on May 25, 2005. A moment of silence followed this announcement. Immediate Past President Joey Reynolds addressed the membership and thanked the members for allowing him to serve the organization. President Schurmeier thanked Immediate Past President Reynolds for his hard work and dedication to the organization. The meeting was turned over to District 7 Representative Matt Lojko by President Schurmeier and Representative Lojko welcomed the members to Greensboro. Representative Lojko provided an overview of today’s training, lunch arrangements, and he provided information on Bur-Mill Park. President Schurmeier presented Representative Lojko with a gift for hosting the 2005 Fall Conference and thanked him and his staff for their hard work. President Schurmeier introduced Nichole Watts, the North Carolina Chapter’s 2006 Youth Leadership Program attendee. Nichole was accompanied by her father Jimmy Watts of the Kitty Hawk Police Department. Nichole thanked the members for the opportunity to attend the 2006 Youth Leadership Session and provided a review of her experience that was accompanied by a PowerPoint Presentation containing photographs. New Business President Schurmeier addressed the members on the subject of the Hurricane Relief Fund. He advised members that the board discussed soliciting donations from chapter members and the Chapter matching member’s donations up to $2,500.00. President Schurmeier advised members that donations would be accepted through December 31st. President Schurmeier discussed the North Carolina Chapter’s desire to have a member of our chapter elected to the District III Representative seat. President Schurmeier gave members an overview of this position and explained the 9-year commitment the chapter would have to make to any candidate the chapter endorses. President Schurmeier advised the members of Immediate Past President Joey Reynolds’ desire to run for the District III Representative position and asked any member who was interest in running for this position to submit a letter of interest to the executive board. President Schurmeier thanked the Executive Board for all their assistance to him during his tenure as Chapter President. He advised the members that is has been an honor to serve them. Windy Hunter asked to address the membership and thanked President Schurmeier for his service to the organization. Chief Hunter asked the members to give President Schurmeier a round of applause and President Schurmeier received a round of applause from the members. (Motion) President Schurmeier asked the members if there was any further chapter business, and with no further business being announced he asked for motion from the floor to close the business meeting. A motion to close the meeting was made by Bill Farley and received a second by Calvin Shaw. The members voted and the motion was carried. The business meeting was adjourned at 11:05 AM |
