FBI National Academy Associates North Carolina Chapter October 23, 2009 Chapter Business Meeting Minutes, Flat Rock, NC Prepared by: Myron Guthrie, Chapter Historian The General Meeting of the North Carolina National Academy Associates was called to order by Chapter President Mike Carver at 9:30 AM. Jeff Isenhour was appointed Sergeant-at-Arms by President Carver. The meeting began with a presentation of the Colors by members of the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office followed by an invocation given by Past President Greg Harrington. The invocation was followed by the membership reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. Secretary/Treasurer Mike Adams conducted a roll-call of the executive board and all board members were present. President Carver recognized Sheriff Rick Davis and thanked him and his staff for their service to the chapter in hosting the conference. Sheriff Davis introduced and recognized Deputy Gloria Knock as organizer of the conference, and thanked her for her hard work. Sheriff Davis and Deputy Knock were presented a plaque to show the chapter’s appreciation for their assistance. Sheriff Davis introduced Blue Ridge Community College President Dr. Molly Parkhill, Henderson County Commission Chairman Bill Moyer, and Hendersonville Mayor Greg Newman. Mayor Newman presented Sheriff Davis with the “Key to the City.” President Carver presented Dr. Parkhill with a plaque in appreciation for service to the chapter. President Carver introduced Training Coordinator John Letterhos. Training Coordinator Letterhos recognized Captain Jaymes Holden of the Pineville Police Department. Jaymes attended the 208th Session and has recently returned to duty after battling a debilitating nerve disorder that left him temporarily paralyzed. Training Coordinator Letterhos saluted Captain Holden for his courageous battle. Training Coordinator Letterhos introduced North Carolina’s new SAC Owen Harris and the FBI Staff in attendance. The FBI delegation included Jim Jenell, Jimmy Russell, Keith Bathgate, Dave Johnson, Mike DeLeon, Scott Chaney, and Bryan Robe. President Carver introduced Past President and Section III Representative Elect Joey Reynolds, who gave members a report of his election to the Section III Representative Position. Past President Reynolds thanked chapter members for their support and pledged to serve the chapter and Section III with all the professionalism and diligence that is reflective of the North Carolina Chapter. President Carver asked Gaston County Police Department Assistant Chief Jeff Isenhour to come forward to receive the First Annual Neal Forney Award. Jeff is now retired, but has served the chapter, his department, and the law enforcement community with distinction both during his active service and in retirement. President Carver called District 2 Representative Chief Mike Yaniero of the Jacksonville Police Department forward and accept the 2009 North Carolina Education Scholarship on behalf of his son Jacob. Jacob was in school and was unable to attend. President Carver introduced 2009 Youth Leadership Participants Sierra Wilson and Deirdre Curran. President Carver advised the members that the North Carolina Chapter was allowed to send two (2) attendees to this year’s session, thus showing the quality of North Carolina’s applicants. Sierra and Deirdre then gave the members a report of their experience. President Carver asked for reports from the board and committee members. Historian Report of Deceased Members: Myron Guthrie
Historian Presentation of Meeting Minutes from the March 27, 2009 General Meeting in Rocky Mount, NC: Myron Guthrie Historian Guthrie asked the members if anyone wanted a reading of the minutes and in absence of a request President Carver asked for a motion to accept the meeting minutes. MOTION: A motion to accept the meeting minutes was made by Jeff Isenhour and received a second from Joey Reynolds. The members voted and the motion passed. Secretary/Treasurers Report: Mike Adams
MOTION: President Carver asked for a motion to accept the chapter financial report. A motion to accept the report was made by Eric Copeland and received a second from Tom Deighton. Old Business None New Business President Carver asked the members if anyone would be interested in hosting the 2010 Spring Training Conference. Joe Bartlett of the Greenville Police Department offered to host the conference in Greenville. President Carver asked the members if anyone would be interested in hosting the 2010 Fall Training Conference. Greg Harrington of the Wake Forrest Police Department offered to host the conference in Wake Forrest. President Carver asked if any member had any business they wanted to discuss or bring to the attention to the chapter. In absence of any further business President Carver asked for a motion to close the general business meeting. MOTION Jeff Isenhour made a motion to close the business meeting and received a second from Cindy Isenhour. The members voted and the motion passed. The business meeting closed at 11:00 am.
