Chapter Business Meeting Minutes, Charlotte, NC

The General Meeting of the North Carolina National Academy Associated was called to order by Chapter President Steve Gillikin at 9:30 AM.

The meeting began with an invocation that was given by Second Vice President Greg Harrington and was followed by the membership reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

President Gillikin recognized our honored guests and thanked them for attending today’s meeting. Attending were Chief Darrel Stevens and Conference Coordinator Captain Mike Adams from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and SAC Nate Gray and FBI Training Coordinator Jerry Senatore from the Charlotte FBI Office.

President Gillikin presented Chief Stevens and Captain Adams with plaques thanking them for hosting the fall training conference. Second Vice President Marshall Williams presented a framed 2006 Summer Conference print to immediate Past President Bob Schurmeier in appreciation for his dedication to the chapter. A print was also given to President Gillikin for his dedication to the chapter.

President Gillikin thanked the Carolina Institute of Community Policing for their sponsorship of today’s guest Speaker.

Secretary/Treasurer Isenhour conducted a roll-call of the executive board and all board members were present. President Gillikin asked for reports from the board members.

Second Vice President Williams gave the members an update on the 2007 Summer Conference in Pinehurst and gave conference dates of June 17, 18, 19, 2007. President Gillikin advised the members that a survey was being prepared that would give them an opportunity to provide input on future conference locations.

President Gillikin announced the Spring 2007 Training Conference would be hosted by the Nash County Sheriff’s Office, but no one has offered to host the Fall 2007 Conference. He also advised the Cary Police Department has offered to host the Spring 2008 Conference. 

President Gillikin asked the members if anyone wanted a review of the meeting minutes from the general meeting in Carolina Beach and no one requested a reading. He asked for a motion to accept the meeting minutes and a motion was made by Joey Reynolds to accept the meeting minutes. The motion was seconded by Jeff Isenhour and after a vote the motion passed.

President Gillikin mentioned to the members the issue of a chapter scholarship and advised the members that a committee had been formed to look at this issue.     

Secretary/Treasurer Isenhour gave the members a report of the chapter’s finances and made financial reports available to members who wished to review the reports.

Historian Guthrie recognized recently deceased members Chris Daniels and David Bullock, and asked the members for a moment of silence to honor these gentlemen.

President Gillikin recognized past presidents in attendance; Loy Ingold, Bill Williams, Joey Reynolds, and Bob Schurmeier.

President Gillikin recognized the recent graduates of the 226 Session and asked the graduates in attendance to stand and be recognized.

President Gillikin introduced SBI Special Agent Rick Hetzel to the members and reminded them that Agent Hetzel is the cancer survivor the chapter assisted with a financial gift. Agent Hetzel addressed the members and thanked them for their generosity to him and his family and thanks them for their support during his fight with cancer. 

 President Gillikin asked the members if anyone had any old or new business to discuss, and in the absence of any further business asked for a motion to close the chapter business meeting. Myron Guthrie made a motion to close the meeting that was seconded by Mike Carver. The members voted and the motion passed.

The meeting was closed at 09:56 AM.
