Captain Tom Deighton has served as an officer of the Lenoir Police Department since October 29, 1984. He has served as a Patrol Officer, Patrol Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, Budget and Logistics Officer and Professional Standards Officer. He has served as the Support Services Division Commander since December, 2003.

Captain Deighton has earned an Associate in Applied Science degree from Wilkes Community College and a Bachelor of Science degree from Lees-McRae College. He received his Advanced Law Enforcement Certificate from the State of North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission in 1994. Captain Deighton is also a 1996 graduate of the Administrative Officers Management Program at N.C. State University and a graduate of the 217th session of the FBI National Academy.

Captain Deighton is President of the Lenoir Police Community Partners, Inc. (LPCP). LPCP is a 501 C (3) organization operated through the Lenoir Police Department to provide funding to local community groups for their programs. Captain Deighton is also President of the Caldwell County chapter of American Field Service, Intercultural Programs USA. He is also a member of the NC Police Executives Association, International Association of Chiefs of Police, FBI National Academy Associates, and the NC FBI National Academy Associates.
